After visiting Hilton Head Island last week, I looked through the two cookbooks I have from the Island. I saw this recipe for chocolate cookies and remembered how good they were when I made them. I like them because they are drop cookies and are chewy if baked the minimum time of 8 minutes. I really became inspired again as I looked through the books and I plan to select a recipe to make this coming weekend. Hilton Head Island has great diversity in restaurants and the food is always such good quality.
Heritage Chocolate Drop Cookies
2 squares chocolate
1/2 cup butter
1 cup sugar
1/4 cup milk
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
2 cups flour
pinch of salt
2 teaspoons baking powder
Put chocolate in a saucepan with 1/4 cup of water; stir over low heat until a paste is formed. Put sugar and butter in mixing bowl and let stand until soft. Add egg; mix. Add chocolate; mix. Add milk; mix. Add flavoring; mix thoroughly. Sift flour, baking powder and salt together and stir into mixture in bowl. Drop by teaspoonsful onto well-greased baking sheet. Bake in 375-degree oven until firm to touch, or about 8-12 minutes.
