Three Reasons Why I Love Calling North Carolina Home

Three Reasons Why I Love Calling North Carolina Home:

(from 100 North Carolina Icons written by Michael Graff for Our State Magazine)

Tobacco Barns – Where once we built our economy, now places of memory

Belk – William Henry Belk used $750 in savings to open the first store in Monroe in 1888.  That’d still get him a watch and a handbag from a Belk today.

Grandfather Mountain- Our beloved mountain almost saw the Blue Ridge Parkway run right through it.  But beloved owner Hugh Morton made sure the road went around—much to the delight of Mildred, the mountain’s beloved bear.

And that is three reasons why I love the state I am in!
