On Saturday, one of my favorite yard sale finds was a small cookbook entitled, “A Taste of Charleston South Carolina Restaurant Recipes”. I told Mr D I was going to buy it and we would never have to visit Charleston again. He told me he didn’t want me to buy it.
We love Charleston and have eaten at many different restaurants in the area. One of our favorites is Oscars in Summerville. It is about 20 minutes from Charleston and was recommended to us many years ago by a friend from Charleston. The outside of the building is very unassuming; however, don’t let that fool you. After you enter the restaurant you are swept away by the superb food and excellent service. Here is a link to Oscar’s website: http://www.oscarsofsummerville.com/
I was totally surprised as I was thumbing through this recipe book to see a recipe from Oscar’s. It does look surprisingly easy and is very similar to Bananas Foster of New Orleans fame. After preparing the dish as directed you would serve it with the vanilla ice cream. The pecans and whipped cream could be added but that would be optional.
This recipe brought back such fond memories for me of my dining experience at Oscars. This year as I search for treasure at Saturday morning yard sales, I have become a lot more discriminating and I think this will be a cookbook I will use and enjoy many times.
Thanks for stopping by.
