This past weekend Mr. D and I took a quick trip to Morehead City, North Carolina. I gave Mr. D a certificate to go deep sea fishing on the Carolina Princess in Morehead City and he did that on Saturday. I went along and spent the day at Atlantic Beach. We had a great time and today I am sharing some of the pictures of the Eastern part of our state.
The pictures below are of Atlantic Beach and that is just over the bridge from Morehead City and where I spent Saturday.
Below is a picture of the Carolina Princess as it returned to the dock in Morehead City. As you can see there are no pictures of Mr. D holding his fish that he caught. He did not catch one fish and it was a very frustrating day for the crew of the boat. It had never happened before and they were very apologetic. However, Mr. D had a good time and is talking about going deep sea fishing again next year.
On Sunday we visited nearby Beaufort, North Carolina. In North Carolina it is pronounced bow as in bowfort. In South Carolina it is pronounced beau as in beautiful. Both cities are very pretty. I enjoyed strolling the waterfront of the town.
On the way home we stopped in Kinston and ate at Kings Bar-B-Que & Chicken. The restaurant has been in business since 1936 and we were not disappointed.
There is definitely a difference in eastern and western North Carolina barbeque. It isn’t just the sauce which is vinegar based in Eastern North Carolina and tomato based in Western North Carolina. There is also a difference in how the meat is prepared. The meat in the East is a lot more moist than the meat in the west.
We have visited this area of North Carolina before and I had forgotten how charming it is. The people there are super nice and unassuming and it was a fun weekend.
If you haven’t already, I do hope you will be able to visit our state real soon. Thanks for stopping by.
